15 YEARS AGO THE WEEK THAT WAS
Bruce Springstein-'Working on a dream' was at No.1 in the album charts, Lily Allen-'The Fear' was top of the singles charts obviously the latter not my choice! 51st Grammy Awards happened with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss winning Record of the Year for "Please Read the Letter" and Coldplay getting Song of the Year gong for "Viva la Vida." With the Banking crisis a major issue at the time (who would go into retail?) the United States Treasury delayed announcing a bailout of the banking industry . Closer to home, undefeated Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe announced his retirement.
DAY ONE
Our first day of trading in 2009 brought in a princely sum total of £30.50 which at the time was £30.50 more than expected with no expectations of any customers, the first album sale was incidentally a Bruce Sprngstein album!
THANK YOU
This 'coming of age' obviously wouldn't have been possible without the tremendous support over the years and we can't thank everyone enough for this. The first 3 years were tough, working shifts whilst at the same time getting the shop up and running, but the 12 years from quitting life in the real world to fully concentrate on the shop (and Record Fairs) have been a joy and the best thing I ever did.
IT's BEEN A BLAST
15 years in and 15 years older, it has been such an enriching and enlightening experience (Musically and Socially) running a Record Shop and I could never have imagined back then the shop would still be going in 2024 but here we are, who knows what the future holds but loving it as I do there are no thoughts at this point of quiting to put on my slippers and watch daytime TV....there are so many more things to do and ideas for the future, so on we go.
RECORD FAIR INSPIRATION
None of this would have happened had I not started the Record Fairs back in 2006 this really got me thinking about possibilities and when my Wife (Pat) spotted a 'to let' sign on 28 New Street in 2008, there was no stopping me. Although we are scaling back the Record Fairs this year to just one venue (3 Fairs) in 2024 we are very happy that this is where it all started....Mold!
TEAM VOD
As with any small business it can at times be quite time consuming, so to have the full support of all the family is very important and has been crucial to the longevity of the shop and fairs....it really is a team effort!
